I happened across a technique for construction – by happenstance. A flash of a post about a Robert Downey Jr home – a Binishell. That set me down a trail of exploration.
What is a Binishell? A dome-like structure formed from a membrane (like a balloon) that is inflated to the desired shape with low air pressure, then covered with steel-reinforcement (tied together rebar) and coated in sprayed on concrete. Once the concrete has cured, the remove the bladder – and the house form is complete. Binishells are known for being energy efficient, disaster resistant and (surprisingly) cost-efficient. There is NO other building material and very little waste in the core construction!
Binishells were designed as a building technique in the 1960s by Dr. Dante Bini. The balloon-like pneumatic form is very space-age modern looking and impervious to many if the ills that challenge other forms of construction.
So… I decided to explore this building style with gen-AI, and took it to multiple platforms to see how they might interpret my prompting.
My base prompt used in all the platforms:
• an inflated Binishell structured dome built of white stuccoed concrete with wood-trimmed windows and lush greenery surrounding. Setting of Utah mountains in the background . Photograph for AD magazine, feature article and cover story image. UHD. Retro Sci-fi modernism
So, here is my challenge. The prompt above creates a single dome. Figure out how to modify my prompt to get the multi-dome look of the FIRST image in the document below! Share your results on the post at LinkedIn.
So to you fantastic creatives, use my prompt base in gen-AI to craft the base – then figure out how to modify the prompt to create a multi-nodal dome! If you do not know how to use gen-AI and want to learn, simply reply LEARN! below for a link to get you started in Midjourney.
Excited to see how you solve this one.

Hints:
When prompting with Midjourney (or other gen-AI text-to-image), it is a combination of technical terms (from your respective technical know how) combined with descriptive terms of relevance. Think in analogies… if describing something to someone else, you might you the phrasing “like…” followed by a description they could visualize. Do the same when engaging the AI!
When you get hints of conjoined structures… remember we want to nest those domes together. Reframe your thinking. How would you describe conjoined circles? — think bubbles. Since gen-AI is a language based system, it is obviously going to be in your words / descriptions. Giving a point of reference with a solid starting point, can then direct the prompt tweaks for more targeted changes and results-focused renders!!
