This week’s Human Element Sunday Challenge

A big shoutout to our brave adventurers who took on the challenge, including: Ben Roffelsen, Taika Jalohaikara, 💎JP Holecka💎, TANUSHRI ROY, Mudassir Shah, Alessandro Romiti, Arlan Smith, Joshua McMahon … You can see LAST week’s challenge (and submission links) at – https://lnkd.in/g3SWEsQp
Now, picture this: I’m cruising back home after waving goodbye to my youngest at the high school gates. The radio buzzes with chatter about Tragedy Songs. Ever heard of them? Those soul-stirring melodies that don’t get your feet tapping but might just have you reaching for a tissue. My better half lovingly dubs them as “favorite guilty-pleasure tragedies.”
So, this Sunday’s quest? Channel your inner director and use AI to craft a storyboard inspired by a Tragedy Song. While you’re free to pick any heart-wrenching song, I’ve teamed up with Chat-GPT to curate a list of Top-10s across various eras and styles to ignite your creativity. Dive into the document below for:
• Top 10 Tragedy Songs of all times
• Top 10 Teen Tragedy Songs of the 50s & 60s

Submissions
Alessandro Romiti tackled “Black” by Pearl Jam as his Tragedy Song. His beautiful renders are tragic in their own visual representation – haunting and eerie. The image I shared here was my favorite from his collection.
Tridib Ghosh went the extra mile, using a Hindi song by S.P. Bala Subramaniam – “Hum na Samjhe The” – Tridib translated it to English and produced a multi-panel comic strip with pen and ink styling.
TANUSHRI ROY coming on strong with Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” but from the perspective of a woman as the main character (love it) and styled in 2 different ways. Check this out for sure!
Darien Davis coming on strong in the storytelling with “Devil Got My Woman” by Skip James.
Javier Alfonso Moreno threw it back old-school with a powerful number from Duran Duran – “Ordinary World”. Check out the blue tone wet world of sadness overload he brought to life!
Mudassir Shah chose Elton John’s “Candle in the Wind” tribute to Princes Diana as his Tragedy Song. A beautiful tribute in expression thru gen-AI!
Carlos Garavito 🇨🇦 🇨🇴, overdelivers with a full storyboard ‘sketch’ series, followed by ‘still frame’ photo-images to illustrate “Mad World” by Tears For Fears. Cue up the song and give this a viewing. I love this song.
First submission on this week’s challenge is by Big Al Gruswitz with 2 images inspired by his favorite Country Western Tragedy Songs.
Excellent execution from Christopher Sicurella.
Amy Winehouse, ‘Back to Black’ using Musavir.ai
Joshua McMahon took his Tragedy song direction from “Dead Man’s Curve” by Jay and Dean (1964), with a strong influence of a visual reminiscent of “American Graffiti”. I love the rich colors bleeding to the dark of night.
Michael Uffer with a strongly emotional piece influenced by ‘Strange Fruit’ by Billie Holiday.
Ben Roffelsen took his art direction to a whole new place of a Tragedy song with Henryk Górecki’s Symphony No. 3, the “Symphony of Sorrowful Songs”…. Go take a look at the haunting images crafted for his gen-AI renders. Love it!
